Thing is, were tapirs aggressive animals, they'd only have had to kick them a couple of times and the otters would have left them alone for good. Both species also had problems with blindness - possibly due to the brightness of the enclosure (lack of shade cover), water pollution or a virus - nobody really knows what caused it.
