This baby anteater is the greatest thing I have seen in weeks.
I wish I had a scale like that, I might be less reluctant to check my weight.

Ugly? Adorable? Uglorable!

There is a park near where I live.
At the park there is an aviary.
At the aviary there is this duck.

I like this duck.

I saw this picture, and I had no idea what it was of. I thought it was perhaps a photoshop, or perhaps an eocaecilian, but it turns out eocaecilians are EXTINCT. Bummer for them, and my identification of whatever this is. The filename was dog-248.jpg, but I was also pretty sure it was not a dog.

I had to use TinEye image search (full discloser I think TinEye is pretty neat) to figure out it was a Mexican mole lizard, also known as the ajolote lizard, although when I searched for other pictures of it, it was either the same picture (so it could have just been mislabeled) or the picture was of a completely different animal.
But then I found a video, which is obviously of the same thing. It is really cool. BUT THE OWNER DISABLED EMBEDDING. Why would anybody do this? HERE IS A LINK TO IT ANYWAY, because it’s cool. Only 324 views in two months. It deserves better than that.
Thanks Mr. Self Destruct of the Something Awful forums for finding this picture. Although I would also like to thank the person who took the picture, but tineye couldn’t help me find the photographer. ALSO, video owner person: don’t disable embedding!!! I almost didn’t use your video because of that, and I only ended up using it because it is like, way cool. But disabling embedding: totally not cool?

That smile… I know I’m in for trouble, but it’s so deviously charming.
Photo by Matt Hansen who seems to have taken a number of pretty cool pictures.

I only know the name “jumping spider” because somebody in my family once told me my mother is afraid of them more than she is other spiders.

It seems pretty not scary to me?
Thanks, Tical00 from the Something Awful Forums. Even though your version of the picture had the outer eyes photoshopped AND I JUST REALIZED IT WAS ALSO MADE TO SMILE.
(Click the image for photocredits. I think I’m going to do it that way from now on.)

I’ve missed a lot while I was gone. Apparently this has been everywhere, but I hadn’t seen it. I’ll share it with you just incase you somehow missed it too.

These people say they found them like that. It is the best thing.
Thanks Mirick from the Something Awful Forums!

Oh man, oh man, oh man. I did not realize capybaras could be kept as pets.
Caplin Rous is a domesticated capybara living in Texas. He’s multi-talented, knowing how to sit, swim, and Twitter.
If that’s not good enough look at him as a baby.
I wish I could put title text on youtube videos because that’s the perfect place for me to hide a terrible line like “everything’s bigger in texas.”
Caplin Rous’s blog.
The capybara’s twitter.

Can I keep using Physics as an excuse for not posting? Well, only one more week of it… Hopefully after that I’ll get back to posting. Kento is getting ready for some international travel, so I don’t know when he’ll be back posting. We’ll see.
Anyway, my friend sent me this video, and I just had to post it.
The music selection is odd. I wrote a song about moose once, and those who know what I’m talking about probably hate me now for bringing it up… It probably would have worked a little better for this video, besides the fact that it’s annoying and, well, I wrote it, if you can even call it writing. It’s essentially a line containing 12 words repeated over and over again.
This video is much better than my moose song though. The quality isn’t the best, and the music choice is odd, but how can you go wrong with three moose and a sprinkler?

What with physics, being out of town, physics, more physics… Been a bit busy, but I’ll try to post again!
I’ve been on a mission to post my favorite local bat, the Myotis evotis, but have so far been unable to find a picture that I like and have the rights to use. So I settled on a different local Myotis, the Myotis lucifugus. I do believe we caught some of these during the training I was on, though I don’t think I personally caught any (I mostly got evotis and volans).

I can’t help but wonder how they IDed them as Lucis, since lucifugus and californicus are pretty much indistinguishable.
