Dumbo Octopus

Hey look, I’m alive!

We were talking about cephalopods in invert bio the other day, and I decided I had to post a dumbo octopus on Uglorable. Now that I’m done with midterms, I’m finally going to do it.

Re: Frogfish

Here is an interesting video of a frogfish eating!

I guess being Uglorable can sometimes make one an effective predator.

Pierre, the sharply dressed penguin

This is kind of impressive!

This NPR story notes how old Pierre is for a penguin:

In the wild, penguins live about 15 years; in captivity, they live to about 20. Pierre turned 25 in February.

He’s also looking a lot healthier in the video than he did in the story’s photograph:

Thanks Violet Dragon!

Tapir Day!

It’s World Tapir Day!

Treat your tapir right and give it the appreciation he or she deserves.

Rotifers

I’m taking Invertebrate Biology right now (awesome class). Today my professor lectured about rotifers, and showed us this:

I laughed so hard I almost cried.
Rotifers are the smallest metazoans, ranging from about 0.1 mm to 1 mm.

Self-loathing cuttlefish

This kind of seems a little mean, but it’s kind of interesting! In this video, cuttlefish react to a live video of themselves on the monitor of a handheld video camera.

(I must say I felt intimidated!)

Phil Demers and Smooshie

Phil Demurs posted another video of the media’s coverage of his relationship with Smooshie the walrus. I think it’s the best story yet!

I haven’t seen anybody mention (although I’m sure many have) that “walrus” in French is “morse,” Polish “mors,” and in several other languages “morsa,” which I think sounds a bit like his last name, “Demers.” Phil de Morse?

Kento’s Walrus Adventure, for the CD-i

Sorry for the lack of updates, I’ve been really busy with my freelance work, and, well, Emi had been out of the country.

But look, I made something for you!

That’s… that’s me, by the way.
